Laboratory of algal biotechnology - Jiří Kopecký

The research is aimed in optimizing the technologies of algal production and of processing the product as well as on various practical uses of algae:

• design, construction and operation of photobioreactors using artificial light
• design, construction and testing of solar culture units with a thin layer of suspension on tilted surface
• optimizing of downstream processing of algal biomass for various types of users
• production of algal biomass with a defined composition or a specific content of xenobiotic components
• participation in development of commercial products including algae as a source of valuable biochemicals for nutrition, medicine and industry

Regarding the practical utilization of the Laboratory work, 8 industrial contracts have been implemented. The know-how of technology of large-scale algal biomass production developed in this laboratory was sold to a Czech-Greek company. An agreement concerning the future development of new products based on microalgae was closed with the above company.
